Description
Adam and Eve stand under the tree of knowledge as God created them. Both their nakedness is covered by a very small leaf. They have already tasted from the apple. The snake winds itself around the trunk as a symbol of the devil's seduction of the innocent. It peeps out of the dense foliage above Eve, as if to point out her guilt. The small sculpture was a private devotional image that must have had great significance for the everyday faith of the original owners.
