Description
The image depicts several artisans along with their various offering during the heyday of clock making in 16th century. In the centre, a man is working on a magnificent grand clock, which is being inspected by a distinguished prospective client. At a workbench on the left, two clockmakers are filing away at cogs; in front of them table clocks adorned with alarm mechanisms. On the right another craftsman is adjusting the weights of a wall clock.
The copperplate engraving of the clockmaker's craft is part of a series of 20 sheets showing new achievements and discoveries in the history of culture and technology. It is therefore an impressive testimony to the faith in progress of the time.
