Since its foundation, the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum has acquired select room interiors from noteworthy buildings of historical importance and used them as a suitable backdrops for the display of the various periods. Around 1900, peasant rooms from the various regions of Bavaria were installed as part of the permanent collection.
The characteristic and atmospheric period rooms include the Late Medieval guild room of the Augsburg weavers, the Landshut room and the cabinet from Munich's Palais Tattenbach with its painted silk fabrics from the 18th century.
