The ivory collection is one of the most extensive and of the highest quality in the world. The collection includes works from the late Antiquity to the 20th century.
Alongside masterpieces from the Middle Ages, the magnificent holdings of Baroque reliefs, statuettes and masterfully designed turned ivories from the Wittelsbach collections are among the ultimate treasures of the Museum. The satyr masks and the coin cabinet, both made from ivory for Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria, are unique masterpieces, that can only be found in Munich.
