Carnival and fancy dress parties in the Baroque era

One of the most popular amusements in the Baroque period was dressing-up parties. They were not only organised at court during carnival time, but also on special occasions such as weddings. The otherwise strict ceremonial was relaxed. Guests were given their roles by lot and had to organise their own costumes. Paintings and porcelain figurines show that they were sometimes far too elegant.
