History of the branch museum
The Bavarian School Museum Ichenhausen was founded in 1984 as a branch museum of the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum. The museum is located in in the centre of town in an old Baroque manor, which served as a school from 1860 until the 1960s. An extension built in 2002 houses the foyer and a venue for special exhibitions and events. In 2015, modern studios were added offering a space for workshops. The completely renewed permanent exhibition opened in autumn 2018.
