The "Fürstliche Schatzkammer Thurn und Taxis" (The Thurn und Taxis Princely Treasury) exhibits high-quality furniture, fine porcelain, precious tobacco boxes and exquisite gold and silver valuables of the very highest quality. Baroque arts and crafts from Europe's leading workshops bear witness to the glory and splendour of one of the most important dynasties of the European aristocracy, the Princely House of Thurn und Taxis, which has been based in Regensburg since 1748. The weapons collection is one of the last surviving examples that authentically convey the impression of a large rifle chamber.

Impressions

Visitors can experience unique works of art in their original functional context: from the courtly table with one of the most extensive ensembles from the early period of European porcelain to the boudoir of the lady of the Rococo. A complete Biedermeier salon whisks visitors away into the living worlds of the early 19th century. And the large rifle chambers reflect the hunting passion of the Princes of Thurn und Taxis.

In 1993, the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum acquired more than 2200 works of art from the holdings of the Princely House of Thurn und Taxis. Since 1998, the majority of these works were put on display in a newly established branch museum. It is located in the Marstall, the former stables of St Emmeram's Palace in Regensburg, a neo-classical building which was built according to the plans of Munich architect Jean Baptiste Métivier between 1829 and 1832.
